In other cases, "bonus scenes" or features were added. In other cases, we took advantage of capabilities that were new or improved since those presets were originally created (some in the time of the Ultra!). In some cases, the Axe-Fx presets were larger and wouldn't fit. This was done to indicate that the preset has changed. "Axe-Fx III owners may notice the suffix "FM3" or slight variations in the names of some of the FM3 presets. The list below is based on firmware 16.x (Cygnus) for the Axe-Fx III, 4.x (Cygnus) for the FM3 and 1.x for the FM9. You can use an expression pedal in presets which use External Controller 1. The factory presets use Input 1 (instrument) and Output 1 with amplifier and speaker cabinet modeling and are configured for stereo output. The Axe-Fx III, FM9 and FM3 have 384 factory presets, divided over 3 banks: A, B and C. If you wonder why an amp model in a factory preset doesn't sound exactly the same your own amplifier, read this: Why Your Amp Doesn't Sound Like Our Amp Axe-Fx III - FM3 - FM9 Multiple beta testers also went through the set, and Cliff reviewed Bank A." (Cygnus v16) "I tested every preset on three guitars this time around: 1) Anderson HSS, 2) American Deluxe Strat SSS 3) Kiesel Vader long scale HH (BareKnuckle). I just consider them a starting point as everyone should." "I use and prefer low output pickups and the presets work fine for me. "The presets were dialed in loud so as to be sure the Fletcher-Munson effect did not influence the sound." That might be a Ping Pong delay, or a stereo Cab block with both sides hard-panned. When using output mode "Copy L>R" in the I/O menu, you'll lose the part of the signal that's hardwired to the right channel. Or when a preset contains a Delay block with the Phase Rev parameter engaged. This can happen if the preset contains an Enhancer block in Classic Mode, or a micro delay in the Cab block. If you're running mono, and audio output in the I/O menu is set to “Sum L+R”, phase cancellation may occur. If possible, play factory presets in stereo to hear the presets at their very best. To solve this, turn down Level in the Amp block or in the Global EQ. If a factory preset makes the Out 1 Clip LED blink, the overall signal level in the digital domain is too hot. Preset output levels can vary from preset to preset.
Just like real amps, presets are sensitive to the type of guitar and its pickups. When using the editor, don't forget to refresh the list of presets in Preset Picker or Manage Presets afterwards.
